Manchester United reportedly made a late attempt to sign Brighton midfielder Julio Enciso on loan, as revealed by sources in Paraguay.
The 21-year-old, who recently returned from a six-month injury layoff, has struggled to secure consistent playing time at Brighton this season. Enciso has started just two Premier League matches, with 10 appearances as a substitute.
Brighton signed the Paraguay international in 2022 for £9.5 million, but he has now agreed to join Ipswich Town on loan for the remainder of the season. Enciso hopes to play a key role in Kieran McKenna’s side as they fight to avoid relegation.
Despite United’s interest, Enciso reportedly rejected their offer, believing he would get more opportunities for regular playing time at Ipswich.
Manchester United had considered Enciso as a potential replacement for Alejandro Garnacho, who is attracting interest from Napoli and Chelsea.
Meanwhile, United has held discussions with Napoli regarding Garnacho, but negotiations have stalled due to a disagreement over his valuation.
United lowered their asking price to €65m (£54.9m), but Napoli remains firm on a maximum offer of €55m (£46.4m).
With the deal for Garnacho uncertain, Napoli has shifted focus and begun talks with Borussia Dortmund over a potential move for Karim Adeyemi.
