Manchester United have officially parted ways with manager Erik ten Hag following their 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday, a result that leaves the club 14th in the Premier League.

The decision was made on Monday morning, and Ruud van Nistelrooy has been named interim head coach.

Brought onto the coaching team last summer, van Nistelrooy will lead the team with support from the current staff until a permanent replacement is secured.

Ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford saw United claim the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. However, his struggles in league performances, with United finishing eighth last season, have led to his exit.

Despite securing a contract extension to 2026 in July, ongoing difficulties in both the Premier League and Europa League have added pressure, with recent draws against FC Twente, Porto, and Fenerbahce.

In his final press conference on Sunday, Ten Hag expressed optimism about United’s potential, affirming his trust in the team.

United now prepare for upcoming fixtures against Leicester City in the Carabao Cup and Chelsea in the Premier League, both at home, under van Nistelrooy’s guidance.
