Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has voiced concerns about the performance of several players following the team’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford.
The result added to United’s struggles this season, with head coach Ruben Amorim branding his squad “the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United.”
Sharpe, speaking on Stadium Astro, highlighted the lackluster displays of Kobbie Mainoo, Diogo Dalot, and Noussair Mazraoui. He expressed frustration with their contributions, particularly in a game where United once again failed to meet expectations.
Sharpe noted that Mainoo appeared “off the pace” in midfield, struggling to make an impact. The full-backs, Dalot and Mazraoui, also came under fire for their inability to provide meaningful support in attack or defense.
“United were poor again,” Sharpe remarked. “They’re not reaching the standards required. One shot on target, one goal—it’s just not good enough. The confidence is lacking. Players are hesitating, taking unnecessary touches, and giving the ball away far too often.”
Sharpe also pointed to disorganization in defense and a lack of creativity in attack, further exacerbating United’s problems.
The defeat marks United’s 10th Premier League loss in just 22 games, making it their worst start to a league campaign since the 1989-90 season under Sir Alex Ferguson. With their struggles continuing, fans and pundits alike are calling for a turnaround before it’s too late.
The Red Devils’ next fixture presents another opportunity to rebuild their momentum, but Sharpe’s comments underscore the need for significant improvements across the squad.
