Amorim officially takes charge on Monday, following a much-needed uplift under interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy.
United ended their winning drought with a dominant 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday, with standout performances from Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte, and a crucial display from Amad.
The Ivorian winger has been impressive lately, especially in the Europa League against PAOK, where he scored twice, helping United break their winless streak in Europe. He maintained his spot in the starting XI against Leicester, playing a pivotal role by assisting Fernandes’ opener with a stunning backheel.
After loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland, Amad had his breakthrough season last year, but was left out of the Premier League lineup early this season, much to the surprise of many.
Amad’s improved performances seem to have earned him a spot in Amorim’s plans, with his work rate and skill set making him a natural fit for Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation. “I am excited to have him in this team and I can’t wait to work with him,” Diallo said of the new manager.
Manuel Ugarte, another key player under Amorim’s system at Sporting, will also feel rejuvenated. The £51million summer signing from Paris Saint-Germain has been integral to United’s midfield, especially with his standout performance against Leicester.
Ugarte won eight tackles on Sunday and has shown the leadership and defensive strength that Amorim admired during their time together in Lisbon.
Both Diallo and Ugarte appear set to play major roles in Amorim’s United, eager to prove their worth as the club embarks on a new era.
