Manchester United have denied reports suggesting that there was an agreement with newly-appointed England manager Thomas Tuchel. Tuchel was officially named as Gareth Southgate’s successor on Wednesday, making him the third non-British head coach to lead the national team.

This announcement puts an end to speculation about Tuchel potentially replacing Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, as he had been strongly linked with a move to the club. Last summer, Tuchel interviewed with Manchester United and emerged as a top contender to take over from Ten Hag. However, the club ultimately chose to extend Ten Hag’s contract for another year and made adjustments to his coaching staff.

Currently, Ten Hag is facing immense pressure at United following the club’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season. In response, United executives held a meeting last week to discuss Ten Hag’s position, especially considering the team’s disappointing performance. Reports suggested that Tuchel had become the frontrunner to take over and that he had verbally agreed to a deal with the club.

However, the Manchester Evening News has reported that Manchester United officials have firmly rejected these claims and have no intention of appointing Tuchel. As it stands, Ten Hag is expected to remain in charge for Saturday’s upcoming match against Brentford at Old Trafford.

A win is crucial for Ten Hag, as anything less will further intensify scrutiny and pressure on his role. Despite the challenges, the United board appears determined to support him for the time being.
