Paul Merson has called on Manchester United to make a bold transfer move by swapping Alejandro Garnacho for Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku. The Arsenal legend insists this deal is a “no-brainer” for United, as Nkunku would bring a significant boost to their attack.

Speculation about Garnacho’s future has intensified, with reports suggesting Chelsea might be interested in signing the 20-year-old Argentine to strengthen their attacking options.

Napoli has also shown interest, leaving Garnacho’s status at Old Trafford uncertain. United reportedly value Garnacho at £55 million but could consider selling him to comply with financial regulations.

Last week, rumors emerged that United might allow Garnacho to join Stamford Bridge if they could secure Nkunku, a player struggling for game time at Chelsea.

Bayern Munich has also been linked with the French forward, but Merson believes United should act swiftly to finalize the deal.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson stated, “If I’m Man United, I’m getting that deal done, 100 per cent. Nkunku’s been unlucky at Chelsea because of Palmer’s performances, but he’s a great player.

If United sign him, they’d get a top-notch player. I don’t see Garnacho as better than Jadon Sancho or Pedro Neto. He’s inconsistent, and I don’t see where he fits into the team, but Nkunku walks right into the lineup.”

Chelsea’s interest in Garnacho has raised eyebrows, given their abundance of wingers, including Jadon Sancho, who is currently on loan from United. Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood, however, has a different perspective.

Sherwood questioned Chelsea’s need for Garnacho but believes Nkunku’s move to United makes sense. “Chelsea doesn’t need Garnacho; they’ve got better players.

Nkunku at United would work because he’s a goalscorer and needs regular minutes. But letting Garnacho go would be a mistake for United. He’s better than most of their current players and came through their academy.”

While opinions are divided, one thing is clear: Garnacho and Nkunku’s futures remain uncertain as the transfer saga unfolds.
