Darren Fletcher has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association after his outburst at match officials during Manchester United’s recent win over Brentford.

The incident took place at Old Trafford on October 19, when Ethan Pinnock scored the opening goal for Brentford.

During the play, United defender Matthijs de Ligt was forced off the pitch due to a head injury, which infuriated the United staff since it was the third time he had to leave the field for treatment.

Both manager Erik ten Hag and assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy received yellow cards for their reactions on the touchline. Fletcher confronted officials as they headed to the tunnel at halftime, which has now led to the FA charge.

The Scottish coach has until October 29 to respond to the charge. An FA statement outlined that Fletcher is accused of behaving in an “improper and/or confrontational manner” and of using “abusive and/or insulting words” towards the officials.

Ten Hag expressed his frustration after the match, particularly regarding de Ligt’s exit from the game. He stated, “It was dry blood so he was already treated for the injury,” questioning why the defender was made to leave.

Despite the tumultuous moment, United went on to secure a 2-1 victory, with Ten Hag emphasizing the team’s fighting spirit and determination.
