Manchester United have identified Lecce’s 20-year-old sensation, Patrick Dorgu, as a potential left wing-back target amid ongoing defensive concerns.
This January marks Ruben Amorim’s debut transfer window as United’s manager, and the Portuguese tactician hopes for significant investment to rejuvenate the struggling team, currently 13th in the Premier League standings.
Speculation continues to swirl around key departures, with Marcus Rashford, Casemiro, and Joshua Zirkzee linked to moves away from Old Trafford.
Despite this, Amorim has expressed his desire to retain Zirkzee, particularly following their hard-fought draw at Liverpool.
Meanwhile, INEOS is actively exploring options to bolster United’s squad, aiming to fuel a mid-season resurgence. Reports suggest United are front-runners to secure a loan deal for Paris Saint-Germain forward Randal Kolo Muani, who has found minutes hard to come by in Ligue 1.
On the defensive front, Luke Shaw’s ongoing injury setbacks have prompted United to prioritize strengthening the left side. While Diogo Dalot has performed admirably in Shaw’s absence, the club has drafted a shortlist of three candidates, including Lecce’s Dorgu, as per Fabrizio Romano.
Dorgu, valued at £25 million, is seen as a budget-friendly alternative to Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez and PSG’s Nuno Mendes.
Since breaking into Lecce’s first team in 2023, the Danish international has earned a reputation as one of Serie A’s most promising talents. However, United face competition, with Napoli also monitoring the young star.
Despite this interest, Lecce sporting director Pantaleo Corvino remains adamant that Dorgu will stay put in January. Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, Corvino said:
“Dorgu is not just a potential champion; he is already one. On the left or right, his engine is unmatched, and he attracts admirers from everywhere. But he will remain with us for now, and we’ll revisit his future in the summer.”
