Manchester United are heading into the January transfer window with limited financial resources, restricted by Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that significant spending is unlikely unless players are sold to generate funds.

Marcus Rashford is among those linked with a potential exit, which could raise substantial revenue for reinforcements. However, Amorim remains cautious.

Following a 1-0 loss to Newcastle, he said, “We don’t have that possibility in January. I can’t just come in and change the team with big money. You know the situation, so there’s not much point in discussing it.”

Despite these constraints, the club has outlined key transfer targets. According to The Daily Mail, top of the list is PSG’s Nuno Mendes, a left-back Amorim previously coached at Sporting Lisbon.

Mendes, capped 33 times by Portugal, is under contract with PSG until 2026, though reports suggest the 22-year-old is open to a move. PSG, however, have placed a hefty £46 million price tag on him, making a January deal challenging.

United are also monitoring Victor Osimhen, the prolific forward currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli. Napoli could recall him in January to facilitate a sale, but United would need to offload multiple high-earning players, such as Rashford, Casemiro, Alejandro Garnacho, or summer signing Joshua Zirkzee, to afford such a move.

Senne Lammens

A less high-profile option is Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens. The 22-year-old could join if Altay Bayindir, United’s current backup keeper, departs in search of more playing time.

Bayindir has struggled to impress, making just four appearances since his September 2023 arrival, including a shaky performance in the recent 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final loss to Spurs.

United’s January activity hinges on departures, and until those occur, it’s unlikely the club will make significant moves in the market.
