Manchester United have reportedly initiated talks with the representatives of Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens as they aim to secure the signature of the highly sought-after winger.
The 20-year-old Englishman, who began his career with stints at Reading and Manchester City, joined Dortmund in 2020 and has since emerged as a key player for the German giants.
Gittens made his Bundesliga debut in April 2022 and has shone this season, with 11 goals across 15 Bundesliga starts and six Champions League appearances.
Currently contracted with Dortmund until 2028, Gittens is rumored to be keen on a move to the Premier League this summer.
According to Sky Sports, Manchester United have already “contacted those around him” to lay the groundwork for a potential transfer.
However, the Red Devils face stiff competition, with Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal all monitoring the situation. Dortmund, known for nurturing young talent, are unwilling to part with their rising star cheaply.
The club has reportedly set a €100m (£83.8m) asking price, expecting a bidding war among the Premier League’s elite.
Dortmund’s managing director, Carsten Cramer, has downplayed the likelihood of a move, emphasizing the club’s desire to retain Gittens.
“It is our ambition to keep him playing for us as long as possible. We’re not aiming to cash in quickly but to build success with him,” Cramer stated.
Similarly, Lars Ricken, Dortmund’s managing director of sport, reinforced the club’s stance: “Our aim is not to sell him. We want to be as successful as possible with Jamie on the team.”
Despite Dortmund’s resolve, Gittens’ growing profile and Premier League ambitions could make him one of the hottest properties in the summer transfer window.
United are reportedly hoping to gain an early advantage, but whether they’ll meet Dortmund’s steep valuation remains to be seen.
