Manchester United are making major moves in the transfer market, with reports from Portugal claiming they have secured a deal to sign Sporting CP winger Geovany Quenda this summer.

Quenda, a 17-year-old talent who has become a key part of Ruben Amorim’s squad at Sporting, is expected to cost United around €60m (£50.1m). This deal, according to Portuguese outlet A Bola, has already been put in place ahead of the next season.

This news comes as United finalize their first signing of the January transfer window, with Patrick Dorgu set to join from Lecce for €35m (£29.2m). Dorgu will mark the beginning of Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford, and Quenda’s arrival in the summer would further bolster the squad.

The young winger began his career at Benfica’s academy before making the switch to Sporting in 2019 at just 13 years old. He signed his first professional contract with the club in August 2023 and broke into the first team under Amorim shortly after.

Sporting secured Quenda’s future in September with a new contract that runs until 2027, significantly raising his release clause from €45m (£37.6m) to €100m (£83.6m). However, it appears United have moved swiftly to negotiate a transfer fee before his valuation increases further.

Primarily playing as a right wing-back in Amorim’s system, Quenda has impressed with his versatility and attacking threat. If the deal is finalized, he could take up a similar role at United, adding depth and quality to their flanks.

Interestingly, before accepting the United job, Amorim had assured Sporting that he would not poach their players in the January window. However, with the summer approaching, it seems the Premier League giants are wasting no time in securing top talent for the future.
