Manchester United Struggles Continue as Lisandro Martinez Defends Team Performance

Lisandro Martinez remains optimistic about Manchester United’s progress despite a crushing 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The loss marked yet another setback for Ruben Amorim, whose challenging start as United manager continues.

Goals from Dean Huijsen, Justin Kluivert, and Antoine Semenyo secured an impressive win for the visitors, leaving the Red Devils languishing in 13th place with just six victories in 17 Premier League games.

Despite the poor results, Martinez believes the team is showing promise but faltering at critical moments. “In these situations, we must show personality and character,” said the Argentine defender. “We’re playing very well, but unfortunately, we didn’t score today.

At Manchester United, we have to win every game, and we know that. It’s frustrating because we’re making mistakes at the back and not converting chances. Set-pieces, in particular, need improvement. If they hadn’t scored their first goal that way, it would’ve been a different game.”

Acknowledging the high expectations at the club, Martinez emphasized the need for patience and unity. “The pressure is immense, but we love it.

I believe in this team and the staff. It’s a process. We win together, and we lose together. Fans are impatient, and we understand, but only we can change this. I’m confident we’ll achieve success.”

Manager Ruben Amorim echoed Martinez’s sentiments, lamenting defensive lapses and missed opportunities. “The scoreline doesn’t reflect the game. We created many chances but couldn’t capitalize. Set-piece defending is costing us, and that made the difference today,” Amorim stated.

The Portuguese manager admitted the team is battling growing anxiety, particularly during home matches. “You feel the tension from the players and fans.

It’s a difficult moment for the club. Conceding quick goals, like against Tottenham, makes it hard to respond. We create opportunities but struggle to convert them, which adds to the frustration.”

Amorim, however, remains committed to his vision for the team. “It’s easier to implement ideas when you’re winning, but these moments are part of the journey.

Nothing bad lasts forever, just like nothing good does. We’ll stay strong, stick to our plans, and focus on winning the next game.”

Manchester United will need to regroup quickly as the pressure mounts on Amorim and his players to turn their season around.

  1. Martinez has been awful for the last several weeks. He made some mistakes that cost United the game at Spurs. He could have done better today. De Ligt has been missed.
