Manchester United is reportedly increasing its interest in securing the services of RB Leipzig left-back David Raum, as injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have left a significant gap in their defensive lineup.

According to Sky Germany, United held “concrete discussions” with Raum during the summer transfer window and continues to keep a close eye on the 26-year-old Germany international. The report highlights Raum’s suitability as a left-sided wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s tactical system, which places a premium on dynamic full-backs capable of contributing both defensively and offensively.
RB Leipzig, however, is under no immediate pressure to sell Raum, as the player’s contract runs until June 2027. The Bundesliga club signed Raum from Hoffenheim in July 2022 for €30 million (£25m), and his stock has only risen since then. Last season, he was one of Leipzig’s standout performers, scoring three goals and providing 13 assists across 40 appearances.
Competition from Bayern Munich
Manchester United may face stiff competition from Bayern Munich, who are reportedly considering Raum as a replacement for Alphonso Davies. Davies is set to become a free agent next summer, with Real Madrid heavily linked to the Canadian star. Bayern’s interest underscores Raum’s growing reputation as one of Europe’s most effective left-sided defenders.
Raum’s Perspective
When asked about his future, Raum struck a cautious but open tone. “If I were to be honest, I would say I have no idea what will happen after this season,” Raum said last month. “I have a contract here in Leipzig, and everything is great.”
He also confirmed that no offers have been made for him yet. “There’s no discussion, nothing. I feel extremely comfortable here and see my future in Leipzig. But we all know how things are in football. The Premier League might be a dream and a big goal at some point,” Raum added.
As Manchester United evaluates its options ahead of the January transfer window, Raum’s versatility and attacking prowess make him an appealing candidate to bolster their defensive ranks. With competition from Bayern Munich and Raum’s current comfort at Leipzig, securing his signature might require a persuasive offer from United.
