Manchester United are preparing to move on from Antony, the Brazilian winger signed for £85 million from Ajax at the recommendation of Erik ten Hag over two years ago.

Reports indicate that, following Ten Hag’s recent sacking, the club has informed Antony he can leave during the January transfer window.
Antony’s time at United has been tumultuous. After a promising start, he managed only four goals in his first season and contributed just once last season amid serious off-field issues, including allegations of domestic violence.
This season, his only goal came during a 7-0 thrashing of Barnsley in the EFL Cup, and he has only made two substitute appearances in the Premier League.
As Manchester United looks to rebuild under new management with the anticipated arrival of Ruben Amorim, there was speculation that Antony could get a fresh start.
However, sources from talkSPORT suggest that the club is firmly set on cutting ties with the player. Potential suitors include his former club Ajax and Brazilian side Flamengo, along with possible interest from other Premier League teams exploring loan options.
The fallout from Ten Hag’s departure has been significant, with former United defender Gary Neville criticizing the signing of Antony.
He referred to the recruitment strategy over the past decade as “appalling,” stating, “I think he oversaw two of the worst transfers Manchester United will ever have made in the signings of Casemiro and Antony.”
Neville highlighted the panic-buying nature of these signings, which totaled between £140-150 million after disastrous results against Brentford and Brighton.
He expressed hope that both players could still succeed but emphasized that their acquisitions represented a failure in management that has forced the club to seek further reinforcements.
As Manchester United braces for the January transfer window, the focus will be on reshaping the squad, and it seems Antony’s time at the club is nearing its end.
