Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim faces early challenges in his tenure as defender Victor Lindelof sustained a groin injury during Sweden’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League win over Slovakia.

The 30-year-old was forced off just 26 minutes into the match, with Sweden confirming his departure from the squad via their official X account.

The team wished him a speedy recovery as they continued their campaign with goals from Victor Gyokeres and Alexander Isak securing their top position in the group.

Lindelof’s absence adds to United’s defensive headaches, with Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, and Leny Yoro yet to play this season.

Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are also recovering from fitness issues, leaving Amorim with limited options ahead of his first match against Ipswich on Sunday.

While Lindelof was not expected to feature prominently under Amorim, his injury underscores the fragility of United’s defensive depth.

Having made just four substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and started twice in the Europa League, Lindelof’s role at United has been peripheral.

With his contract expiring in the summer, speculation about a January exit looms, though the Swede remains focused on the present, saying, “My focus has been to come back from injury and play football again.”

Interestingly, Lindelof shares a connection with Amorim from their time at Benfica. Reflecting on his new manager, he remarked, “I was young at the time, but I’ve heard great things about him as a coach. It’ll be great to meet him again.”
