Ruben Amorim has doubled down on his stance regarding Marcus Rashford, asserting that the forward’s current performances do not justify a return to Manchester United’s squad.

Following United’s 2-0 Boxing Day loss to Wolves, Amorim confirmed Rashford’s exclusion for a fourth consecutive game, emphasizing his full responsibility for the decision.
Thursday’s defeat marked United’s third consecutive loss, with Wolves clinching victory through second-half goals by Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-Chan.
Meanwhile, Rashford, now 27, hinted at a possible exit last week, expressing a desire for “a new challenge” in an interview.
When asked if Rashford could contribute to United’s recovery, Amorim told Amazon Prime: “It’s always the same.
We have to maintain professionalism, whether winning or losing. Losing only makes me more resolute in sticking to my decisions.” Pressed further on Rashford’s efforts, Amorim added, “If he’s not here, the reasons are clear.”
Compounding United’s troubles, Bruno Fernandes and Manuel Ugarte will miss the upcoming clash against Newcastle United on December 30 due to suspensions. Fernandes received two yellow cards against Wolves, while Ugarte’s fifth booking of the league campaign triggers a one-match ban.
Reflecting on recent struggles, Amorim remarked: “We need to strengthen our connections and aggression on the pitch. Despite controlling games, recurring issues like set-pieces and the red card cost us again. This is a challenging phase, but we must persevere and use the time to train and improve.”
