Former Chelsea player and coach Jody Morris has openly criticized Rashford’s lack of pressing, highlighting concerns over his fit within Amorim’s high-pressing philosophy.
Morris compared Rashford’s efforts to Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka, saying Rashford is “on a different planet” when it comes to defensive work rate, which could make him a misfit in Amorim’s system.
Amorim, known for his dynamic, high-pressing tactics, faces challenges in implementing this approach at United, a team that has struggled with pressing intensity in recent years.
While Rashford delivered an impressive 30-goal season under Erik ten Hag, his form has since declined, with only eight goals last campaign and four so far this season.
Morris expressed doubts about Rashford’s consistency and commitment on the pitch, noting the importance of all players in a high-pressing team contributing defensively.
Rashford’s body language and seeming reluctance to press back effectively are cited as concerns that Amorim may need to address.
United will take on PAOK in the Europa League on Thursday, but Rashford’s long-term future under Amorim might hinge on his ability to adapt to the new manager’s pressing demands.
