Martin Zubimendi has once again been thrust into the center of transfer speculation, with both Arsenal and Liverpool reportedly keeping a close eye on his situation ahead of the January window.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who has impressed at Real Sociedad, rejected a move to Liverpool last summer despite the Premier League side activating his £51m release clause.
Instead, Zubimendi opted to extend his contract with Sociedad, where he has been a key figure since joining in 2011.
However, the transfer rumors have not dissipated, and Arsenal now appears to be a potential suitor. Despite the ongoing speculation, Zubimendi remains calm, insisting that he is not affected by outside noise.
In an interview with Estadio Deportivo, the Spain international commented, “There will always be rumors, and with January approaching, there will be more, but I don’t waste energy on outside noise. I’m happy with how I’m handling it.”
Zubimendi also reflected on his decision to stay at Real Sociedad last summer, despite the intense interest from Liverpool.
“I made my decision from within, I thought it was the best thing to do,” he said, adding that results do not influence his mindset. His commitment to his current club remains unwavering, and he believes in the potential of his team.
While Liverpool’s attempts to land him fell short, they have not faltered in their pursuit of reinforcements this season, with Ryan Gravenberch proving to be a capable addition to the midfield.
Meanwhile, Arsenal, dealing with an injury-riddled midfield, may revisit their interest in Zubimendi in the new year.
Zubimendi, who also featured for Spain during Euro 2024, continues to perform at a high level for Real Sociedad.
Arsenal’s continued search for midfield reinforcements and their connection with Zubimendi—coupled with Mikel Arteta’s ties to the club—could see them revisit their pursuit come January.
Zubimendi, for his part, remains focused on the task at hand, confident in his decision to remain at Real Sociedad, and uninterested in the mounting transfer gossip.
