Matheus Cunha has seemingly put an end to speculation linking him with Arsenal by delivering a pointed celebration during Wolves’ 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on Saturday night.
The Brazilian forward has been instrumental for Wolves this season, netting 11 Premier League goals.
However, his performances have attracted interest from top clubs, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Nottingham Forest reportedly monitoring him throughout January.
Despite this, Cunha made a decisive statement with his post-goal celebration. After securing Wolves’ win with a late injury-time goal at Molineux, he gestured toward the ground and formed a heart with his hands—interpreted by many as a sign of commitment to the club.
Following the final whistle, he reinforced this message by smiling at fans while pointing to the Wolves badge on his shirt. At one moment, he even mimicked the act of signing a contract, further fueling speculation that he has no plans to leave.
Meanwhile, former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson had recently urged the Gunners to make a move for Cunha before the transfer deadline.
Merson argued that the forward would be a smart long-term investment, stating that Arsenal should hold off on signing a high-priced striker this season and instead focus on a more calculated move in the summer.
With Cunha’s actions on Saturday, it now appears increasingly unlikely that he will be heading to North London anytime soon.
