Micky van de Ven was visibly emotional after sustaining a hamstring injury during Tottenham Hotspur’s Carabao Cup match against Manchester City on Wednesday night.
The Dutch defender limped off the pitch in tears after attempting to chase down City winger Savinho, when he appeared to tweak his hamstring.
Despite his efforts to shake off the injury, van de Ven was clearly in distress as he clutched the back of his right leg.
Just 14 minutes into the match, he was replaced by Destiny Udogie, showing signs of heartbreak as he exited the field and headed down the tunnel.
Teammate Yves Bissouma rushed to comfort van de Ven, who was distraught over what looks to be a significant injury.
The 23-year-old is acutely aware of the potential recovery time required for a hamstring issue, having faced a similar setback last season.
He suffered a hamstring strain during a memorable Premier League clash against Chelsea on November 6, 2023, and did not return until January 14, when he faced Manchester United.
As van de Ven received treatment on the pitch before his departure, the concern for his health loomed large for both his teammates and Spurs fans.
The club’s supporters will anxiously await updates on the extent of his injury and the time he might be sidelined.
