The Nigeria international, part of a wave of ex-Gunners finding new life at Craven Cottage, has been pivotal in Fulham’s strong start this season. Iwobi, who made his Arsenal debut during Arteta’s final season as a player, was sold by Unai Emery in 2019 after Arsene Wenger’s departure.
Following a four-year stint at Everton, the 28-year-old has flourished under Marco Silva at Fulham. Iwobi has been in sensational form, netting four goals in his last six appearances, including a standout brace in Fulham’s 3-1 win over Brighton on Thursday.
As Fulham prepares to face Arsenal this Sunday, Arteta acknowledged the threat posed by his former teammate. “I always liked him a lot,” Arteta said. “He had tremendous talent, a very special quality. He could play in different spaces and positions. I’m really happy to see him performing at this level.”
Arsenal, who dropped five crucial points against Fulham last season—results that played a part in losing the title—are determined to avoid a repeat. Arteta underlined the challenge ahead, saying, “It’s going to be a big challenge. Last year, we lost five points against them. They’re a tough team with a great coach, and we’ll need a top performance.”
As the two sides prepare for Sunday’s showdown, Arteta’s admiration for Iwobi underscores the Fulham star’s evolution and the test Arsenal will face in their pursuit of Premier League dominance.
