Former Arsenal defender Bacary Sagna has urged Mikel Arteta to reconsider signing Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, despite growing links to the £65 million-rated Brazilian.
With Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka sidelined due to injuries, Arsenal is searching for attacking reinforcements before the transfer window closes on February 3.
However, Sagna believes that while Cunha is a talented player who “suits Arsenal’s style,” it may not be the right time to sign him.
“Cunha is fast, clever, and has the quality to play for Arsenal,” Sagna told Paddy Power. “But you don’t want to overload the squad. Do Arsenal really need him?”
Cunha has been a standout performer for Wolves this season, scoring ten Premier League goals despite the club’s relegation battle.
Chelsea and Nottingham Forest have also shown interest in signing him before the deadline.
Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher echoed Sagna’s concerns, stating: “He’s a good player, but I wouldn’t be paying £65M for him. I’m not sure where he fits at Arsenal.”
Wolves manager Vitor Pereira has also dismissed speculation, insisting, “He’s my player, and he’s not for sale. He’s committed to us.”
With Arsenal chasing Premier League leaders Liverpool, Arteta must decide whether to push for a marquee signing or trust his current squad to deliver a long-awaited title.
