Napoli have initiated talks with Manchester United over a possible move for Alejandro Garnacho. Reports from Italy indicate that United have set a £70 million price tag on the 20-year-old winger.

The Serie A leaders are preparing for the imminent departure of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who is close to completing a €70m (£59.1m) transfer to Paris Saint-Germain.

The Georgian international is scheduled to undergo a medical with the French giants soon.

Napoli see Garnacho as an ideal successor to Kvaratskhelia and held preliminary discussions about the transfer on Tuesday, according to Sky Sports Italy. However, the hefty price tag has made Napoli hesitant, prompting them to consider other targets.

Among these is Timo Werner, currently on loan at Tottenham from RB Leipzig, although the forward is sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Napoli have had recent success with signings from Manchester United, including Scott McTominay, who has been in fine form since joining for £21m last summer.

On the other hand, United are reportedly open to selling Garnacho as they seek to address concerns over the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations.

Since Ruben Amorim’s arrival as manager in November, Garnacho has struggled for game time. The Argentine was even left out of the squad during United’s 2-1 victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium last month.

Despite this, Garnacho has more than three years remaining on his current contract. Amorim recently expressed his desire to retain both Garnacho and fellow youngster Kobbie Mainoo, who has also been linked with a move away from Old Trafford.

“I truly value my players, especially the talented ones,” Amorim said last week. “This is a challenging but special time for the club. I’m particularly pleased with Kobbie’s progress and feel the same about Garna.”
