Napoli has identified Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho as their prime target to replace Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, following the Georgian winger’s transfer to Paris Saint-Germain for €70 million (£58.9m). However, the Italian club faces a significant challenge in meeting United’s £70 million valuation of the Argentine star.
Giovanni Manna, Napoli’s sporting director, acknowledged Garnacho’s quality but emphasized that any potential deal must align with the club’s financial strategy.
“We are making some assessments. He is an important player, but he is not ours,” Manna remarked on Saturday. “We must remain prudent and act within Napoli’s terms, even though expectations are high after losing a top player.”
Napoli’s opening offer, reportedly close to €50 million (£42.1m), was rejected by Manchester United, who are holding firm on their price. Chelsea has also expressed interest in Garnacho, who has contributed eight goals in 31 appearances for the Red Devils this season.
The departure of Kvaratskhelia has left a void in Napoli’s lineup. The winger had been pivotal for the Serie A leaders before requesting a transfer due to unresolved contract negotiations.
“His salary demands were beyond our limits, and the decision to sell was inevitable,” Manna explained. “We wish him the best, but our focus now is on finding a suitable replacement.”
Napoli’s hunt for a new winger comes at a crucial time as the team sits six points clear at the top of Serie A following their recent 3-2 victory against Atalanta. Garnacho’s potential arrival could reinforce the squad as they push for their second consecutive league title.
As the January transfer window progresses, all eyes will be on Napoli to see if they can secure their top target and overcome the hurdles in their pursuit of Garnacho.
