Bayer Leverkusen winger Nathan Tella is determined to reclaim his place in the Super Eagles squad.

The 25-year-old, who made his debut for Nigeria in November 2023, has not received a call-up since, but remains optimistic about representing the nation again.
Debut and initial call-up
Tella first donned Nigeria’s green and white jersey during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro handed him his maiden invitation for matches against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.
He made his debut in a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, showcasing potential on the international stage.
Longing for a comeback
Despite his promising start, Tella has not been recalled to the national team. Speaking to Oma Sports TV, he emphasized the importance of consistent performances at Bayer Leverkusen to gain recognition.
He expressed gratitude for his initial opportunity, stating, “It’s an honour to represent your country, but I have to play here more to get the recognition to play with the country.”
Tella highlighted his focus on improvement, adding, “I think it’s all about the right steps, keep getting better, keep improving, and if I continue to do the right things, I hope Nigeria will call me back.”

Tella’s determination to excel at club level is clear as he aims to solidify his standing with Bayer Leverkusen. Consistent form in the Bundesliga could pave the way for his return to the Super Eagles fold, where he hopes to contribute to Nigeria’s quest for success on the international stage.
