Bayer Leverkusen forward Nathan Tella has expressed his desire to return to Nigeria’s Super Eagles after his initial call-up in 2023 under former coach Jose Peseiro. He made his debut during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Tella was later selected for matches against South Africa and Benin Republic but withdrew, leading to his replacement by Rizespor midfielder Ibrahim Olawoyin.

Following Bayer Leverkusen’s Champions League clash with Sparta Prague, where he scored, Tella spoke with OmaSport TV about his aspirations.
“Whether I deserve a call-up is not for me to say,” he stated. “I’ve always believed in working hard and earning my place. If the new coach feels I’ve done enough, I’ll be happy to return. If not, I’ll keep improving.”
Tella also expressed his dream of representing Nigeria in major tournaments like the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup.

“It’s an honor to play for your country. Every time I get the chance, I’ll give 100 percent and hope to earn recognition back home.”
So far this season, Tella has contributed three goals and three assists in 25 matches for Bayer Leverkusen.
