The 27-year-old sustained a hamstring injury during Leicester’s dramatic 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
Ndidi, who was substituted early in the second half of that game, is now expected to be sidelined for at least a couple of weeks.
Speaking on Thursday, Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy confirmed the setback.
“He (Ndidi) has a hamstring injury, so he won’t be available for Saturday’s game,” Van Nistelrooy said via the club’s official channels.
“We’re monitoring his recovery and will assess how he progresses, but it looks like he’ll be out for a few weeks.”
The Nigeria international has been an integral part of the squad this season, making 15 league appearances for the former Premier League champions.
Leicester will now have to adapt without their midfield anchor as they prepare for the crucial trip to Newcastle.
