Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has provided an optimistic update ahead of their clash with Brighton this weekend, confirming that Alexander Isak is on track for a return while Callum Wilson is nearing his comeback.
Isak’s Recovery
After missing three matches due to a broken toe, Isak has resumed training and is expected to be available for selection as long as he comes through Friday’s training session without any issues.
“Alex has trained and trained well,” Howe stated. “He looked good at the start of this week and will be in contention for the weekend.”
Wilson’s Progress
Meanwhile, fellow striker Callum Wilson is also closing in on a return but is not expected to feature against Brighton. The England forward has been sidelined this season due to back and hamstring injuries.
“Callum has trained, but we will continue to assess it day by day,” Howe explained. “It’s crucial that we reintroduce him into the group at the right time. When we get him back, we want him to stay fit for a long time, so making the right decision is essential.”
Howe emphasized his hands-on approach, stating, “We’re in communication every day at the training ground. It’s great to see Callum back on the training pitch, and it has lifted the spirits of all the players to have him back with the group. We just have to manage his reintegration carefully.”
As Newcastle prepares for the match against Brighton, fans will be hopeful for the return of these key players to enhance the squad’s performance.
