The 22-year-old left-back joined PSG permanently in 2022 for £34 million following an impressive loan spell. Mendes, a product of Sporting CP’s academy, made his senior debut under Ruben Amorim in 2020 and was pivotal in Sporting’s 2020/21 Primeira Liga and Taca da Liga triumphs.
Now in his fourth season at PSG, Mendes has a contract running until 2026. However, RMC Sport reports that negotiations for an extension have stalled, prompting Mendes to consider an exit.
Manchester United has already submitted an offer, and Mendes is reportedly open to joining the Premier League side, managed by his former coach Amorim.
Manchester United, however, are actively seeking a left-sided defender due to injuries to Luke Shaw and the recent return of Tyrell Malacia from a long-term setback. Manager Ruben Amorim sees Mendes as an ideal reinforcement for United’s defensive line.
United have also been linked with RB Leipzig left-back David Raum. The 26-year-old was reportedly in talks with the club during last summer’s transfer window and remains an option.
While PSG is intent on holding on to Mendes, the ongoing standoff over his contract could set up a transfer battle in the months ahead, with Manchester United ready to pounce.
