Former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh has voiced his concerns over Nigeria’s position in the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, emphasizing that missing out on the tournament would be a serious setback for the nation.

Reflecting on the pain of not seeing Nigeria at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, Oliseh highlighted how the team’s absence affected him personally during his six-week involvement with FIFA’s study group.

The Super Eagles have had a challenging start in their current qualifying campaign, failing to secure a win in their first four matches.

Under Augustine Eguavoen, they are currently second from bottom in their group with only three points. Oliseh noted that with Africa’s representation potentially increasing to ten teams in the 2026 World Cup, Nigeria’s chances should be better than ever.

Missing this opportunity would, according to him, be nothing short of a “disaster” for Nigerian football.
