Paul Scholes has cast doubt on Manchester United’s potential hiring of Ruben Amorim from Sporting CP, proposing Zinedine Zidane and Xavi as stronger choices to replace Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

United recently parted ways with Ten Hag, and Ruud van Nistelrooy has temporarily taken over as interim manager while the club begins its search for a permanent replacement.
Amorim, who has guided Sporting to two Portuguese league titles, is reportedly keen on the position and has been considered for the role at Manchester City in the past.
Yet Scholes, a United legend, questions whether Amorim’s success in Portugal translates to the expectations at United.
Scholes expressed disappointment that United missed out on former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel, who recently became England’s national team manager, and also suggested that Xavi, despite certain risks, brings relevant experience from managing Barcelona, a club with high standards similar to United’s.
While Zinedine Zidane remains another option, Scholes is uncertain about his interest in an English club role.
“Zidane had immense success with Real Madrid, but whether he wants to come to England is another question,” Scholes said.
He highlighted that Amorim’s achievements may be impressive, but the Portuguese league’s stature doesn’t quite match the demands of the Premier League.
Scholes also briefly considered Thomas Frank, whose work at Brentford is notable, but added that expectations there differ greatly from those at United.
