The loss continued a troubling trend for the reigning champions, marking their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat and leaving them 11 points adrift of league leaders Liverpool.

The Anfield Taunts

Liverpool fans, relishing City’s recent struggles, taunted Guardiola with chants of “You’re getting sacked in the morning.”

The City boss, not one to let the jeers go unanswered, responded by holding up six fingers, symbolizing the six Premier League titles City have won under his leadership.

Guardiola’s Response

In his post-match interview, Guardiola addressed the chants with a mix of humor and defiance.

“I’m so proud for my six Premier Leagues against that team and the previous team, I’m so sorry,” he quipped.

“I didn’t expect Anfield to start chanting at 0-2 that I should be sacked. Maybe I deserve to be sacked, honestly. With the results we’ve had, maybe I’m still in a job because of the six Premier Leagues. Otherwise, the higher-ups might think it doesn’t work.”

Guardiola acknowledged that the chants are part of the game.

“When you win, you laugh. When you lose, they laugh. You have to accept it.”

A Season in Crisis?

The loss to Liverpool continued an unprecedented dip in form for Guardiola’s City, who have failed to win in their last seven matches across all competitions.

This is the first time in Guardiola’s illustrious managerial career that he has suffered four consecutive league defeats.

City now sit fifth in the Premier League table, 11 points behind Arne Slot’s Liverpool after 13 games.

Looking Ahead

Despite the struggles, Guardiola remains defiant, banking on his track record to weather the storm.

With fixtures piling up, City must find a way to regain form if they hope to secure a top-four finish and avoid further embarrassment in a season that has fallen far below their usual standards.

The pressure is mounting, but if there’s one manager capable of turning things around, it’s Guardiola.
