Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has urged the club’s hierarchy to act swiftly in the January transfer window, warning that failing to make signings could jeopardize their already faltering season.
Spurs are enduring a torrid time in the Premier League, sitting 15th in the table with just seven wins from 22 matches.
While their cup campaigns in the Carabao Cup, Europa League, and FA Cup remain alive, the squad’s performance has been significantly hindered by an ongoing injury crisis.
When Tottenham faces Leicester on Sunday, Postecoglou will be missing several key players, including Dominic Solanke, Guglielmo Vicario, and Destiny Udogie, while others such as Pape Sarr, Sergio Reguilon, and Yves Bissouma remain doubtful.
Speaking at a press conference, Postecoglou made it clear that reinforcements are urgently needed:
“I don’t think I’m stating anything other than the obvious, and for me to come here and say something else would be disingenuous. This playing group needs help, there’s no doubt about that. We’re sort of playing with fire by not bringing anyone in, but the flip side of that is the club is trying to change that situation.”
Tottenham are yet to sign an outfield player this month, and with their injury list mounting, the team is facing a grueling schedule. Spurs will play five matches in just two weeks, including crucial cup ties, making squad depth a pressing concern.
On a more optimistic note, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have returned to training and may feature in the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Liverpool on 6 February.
The question now is whether Tottenham’s decision-makers will heed their manager’s warning and make the necessary moves to strengthen the squad.
