In an important UEFA Nations League C matchup on Thursday, the Faroe Islands will host Armenia at Torsvollur. The home team sits at the bottom of their four-team group with just one point from two matches, while Armenia is currently second with three points following a recent loss to North Macedonia.

Match Overview

The Faroe Islands come into this fixture looking to improve after suffering a 1-0 defeat against Latvia in their last Nations League outing. In that match, both teams had chances, but the hosts couldn’t capitalize on their opportunities. Previously, the Faroe Islands drew 1-1 with North Macedonia in their opening match of the tournament, marking their third draw in their last five Nations League games.

Last season, the Faroe Islands finished third in their group with eight points from six matches in League C, trailing group winners Turkey, who earned promotion to League B. Under manager Hakan Ericson, the team has struggled for form, with only one win, two draws, and twelve losses in their last 15 games. Alarmingly, they failed to score in 11 of those matches.

Historically, the Faroe Islands have struggled at home, losing four and drawing one of their last five games at Torsvollur, although they managed three wins in their previous six home fixtures.

Armenia, on the other hand, comes into the match seeking redemption after losing 2-0 to North Macedonia. Despite having a player advantage for the entire second half after Gjoko Zajkov’s red card, Armenia was unable to capitalize and conceded two goals from just three shots faced.

In the 2022-23 Nations League, Armenia was relegated from League B after finishing last in their group with just three points. Manager Oleksandr Petrakov, who took charge in January 2023, saw a promising start with two wins in his first four games, but the team has since struggled, recording two draws and seven losses in their next nine outings.

However, Armenia started the current tournament positively with a convincing 4-1 win over Latvia in their opening game of the 2024-25 season.

Team News

The Faroe Islands are expected to name Bardur A Reynatrod in goal, supported by a defensive line featuring Joannes Kalso Danielsen, Samuel Johansen Chukwudi, Andrias Edmundsson, and Viljormur Davidsen. Midfield is likely to see Gunnar Vatnhamar partnered with Solvi Vatnhamar and Hanus Sorensen, while the forward line could include Joan Edmundsson, Rene Shaki Joensen, and Meinhard Olsen.

Armenia is anticipated to start Ognjen Cancarevic in goal, with a back three of Andre Calisir, Varazdat Haroyan, and Georgii Arutiunian. Ugochukwu Iwu and Eduard Spertsyan are expected to anchor the midfield, supported by wing-backs Kamo Hovhannisyan and Nair Tiknizyan. Up front, Lucas Zelarayan could lead the attack alongside Grant-Leon Ranos and Edgar Sevikyan.

Predicted Lineups:
