Real Betis ready to make permanent move for Manchester United flop Antony

Real Betis have signaled their interest in signing Antony on a permanent deal after the Brazilian winger made an impressive start to his loan spell in Spain.

Antony, 24, joined Betis in January after a difficult stint at Manchester United, where he failed to justify his staggering £82 million price tag following his 2022 transfer from Ajax.

Labelled one of the biggest flops in Premier League history, he managed just four goals in 52 appearances for United, struggling for consistency and game time.

However, his move to La Liga has provided a fresh start. Antony was named Player of the Match on his Betis debut and scored in his second appearance, showing glimpses of the talent that initially made him a high-profile signing.

Though his loan deal does not include a purchase option, Betis are keen to explore a permanent move. Club executive Ramon Alarcon confirmed their interest, revealing that discussions with United have already begun.

“I think so,” Alarcon said when asked if Betis would try to keep Antony beyond this season. “The other day, United’s CEO called me. We send them regular updates on Antony’s performances so they can see how we’re looking after their asset.

“There is great chemistry between Manchester United, Betis, and the player. So why not? It’s a real possibility that he stays next season.”

With United looking to offload underperforming players and recoup funds, Betis could have a strong chance of securing Antony if the winger continues to impress.
