Real Madrid have entered the competition with Manchester United for Atalanta’s midfield sensation, Ederson, initiating preliminary talks about a potential transfer next summer.

The 25-year-old Brazilian has emerged as one of Italy’s most complete defensive midfielders since joining Salernitana from Corinthians three years ago.

After just 15 games with Salernitana, Ederson earned a £19 million move to Atalanta, where he quickly became a fan favorite.

Last season, Ederson played a pivotal role in Atalanta’s historic Europa League victory, helping the team break Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run and secure their first European trophy.

This season, he has been just as impressive, starting all but one Serie A match and shining in the Champions League, including a standout performance in a goalless draw against Arsenal.

According to AS, Real Madrid have taken notice, initiating informal discussions with Atalanta about Ederson’s availability. While Martin Zubimendi remains Madrid’s primary midfield target, Ederson is seen as a potential addition to strengthen Carlo Ancelotti’s midfield.

Madrid’s interest reportedly solidified after Ederson’s impactful display in Atalanta’s narrow 3-2 defeat to the Spanish giants.

Manchester United, along with Manchester City, remain strong contenders for Ederson’s signature. United are closely monitoring the midfielder but are currently prioritizing reinforcements for Ruben Amorim’s attacking options.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid are also admirers, having previously made an unsuccessful £46 million bid last summer.

Atalanta has made it clear they won’t entertain offers for Ederson in January, but a summer move is likely, with a potential asking price of £50 million. The Brazilian’s contract runs until 2027.

Speaking earlier this season, Ederson expressed curiosity about playing in the Premier League but emphasized his current focus on Brazil’s Copa America campaign and his debut national team call-up.

“When the market opens, speculation is inevitable,” Ederson told AS. “I told my wife and agents to handle any talks so I can focus on Brazil. This is a significant moment for me, and I want to leave a positive impression.”

Although content at Atalanta, Ederson remains open to exploring other leagues in the future, stating, “I’m well-adapted to Italy but curious about the Premier League. For now, I’m focused on growing and proving myself f,urther.”

The race for Ederson’s signature is heating up, with Europe’s elite clubs vying for the rising star who continues to dominate midfield battles in Italy and beyond.
