Real Madrid shuts down Arsenal’s pursuit of Arda Guler

Arda Guler, the 19-year-old Turkish midfielder, has found himself at the center of transfer speculation, with Arsenal reportedly expressing interest in securing his services.

However, Real Madrid remains steadfast in their decision to retain the rising star, ruling out any possibility of a transfer, temporary or permanent.

Guler joined Real Madrid in July 2023 after completing a €20 million (£17 million) transfer from Fenerbahce, committing to a six-year deal. Despite his promise, Guler has struggled for regular playing time under manager Carlo Ancelotti, fueling rumors of discontent and potential departures.

Reports from Spain last week suggested Arsenal had initiated contact with Guler’s representatives to explore a potential move, likening his predicament to that of Martin Odegaard. The Norwegian playmaker famously left Madrid for Arsenal to secure consistent minutes, eventually becoming a cornerstone of the Gunners’ midfield.

Yet, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has poured cold water on such speculations. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed:

“In recent weeks, when Guler was not getting minutes, two clubs from Europe approached Real Madrid regarding a potential move. Since January, over 15 clubs, including Spanish teams, have inquired about Guler, either on loan or permanently. Real Madrid has consistently refused.

“The club firmly believes in Arda Guler’s immense talent and has no interest in selling or loaning him out. He is staying at Real Madrid.”

Ancelotti’s faith in Guler aligns with the club’s stance. Following an impressive display during Real Madrid’s 3-0 La Liga victory over Leganes, Ancelotti praised the young midfielder:

“When the team excels, it’s because every player contributes. Arda brought creativity in the final third and came close to scoring. It was a complete performance. With the demands of the season, players like Arda are vital.”

This season, Guler has made just four league starts, sparking frustration among fans and speculation about his role. Nonetheless, his contract with Real Madrid, which runs until 2029, underscores the club’s long-term commitment to his development.

As Real Madrid prepares to face Liverpool in the Champions League tomorrow, Guler will aim to capitalize on any opportunity to solidify his position within Ancelotti’s starting XI.
