During Real Madrid’s 3-1 Champions League loss to AC Milan, Mina Bonino, wife of Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde, voiced her displeasure with manager Carlo Ancelotti’s tactics.
Valverde, a central midfielder by trade, was played on the right flank, and Bonino took to social media to express her frustration.
When a fan criticized Valverde’s performance, Bonino fired back, highlighting that her husband was played out of his natural position.
“When are they going to understand once and for all that Fede isn’t a winger?” she posted on X.
In response to questions about Bonino’s remarks after the match, Ancelotti explained that he substituted Valverde at halftime, citing back pain that limited his physical performance.
Ancelotti went on to address Madrid’s struggles, particularly in defense, stressing that while improvement is essential, he does not plan to make drastic tactical changes.
“It’s a matter of collective effort, sacrifice, and concentration,” he said, noting that the team’s upcoming Champions League clash against Liverpool will require renewed focus and defensive discipline.
With Real Madrid now in a precarious spot in the Champions League standings, Ancelotti’s team has a critical few weeks ahead to turn things around.
