Real Madrid have been urged to secure a deal for Arsenal’s William Saliba, with former Athletic Bilbao sporting director Rafael Alkorta recommending the club invest in the £66m-rated defender.

Saliba, who has become one of the Premier League’s standout centre-backs since joining Arsenal, has impressed with his commanding presence in defence.
With Real Madrid facing a defensive crisis after injuries to key players Eder Militao and Dani Carvajal, the Spanish giants are reportedly looking to strengthen their backline.
While former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte, currently at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia, has been linked with a move, Alkorta suggests Madrid should wait until next summer before making a move for Saliba.
Alkorta emphasized that Saliba would provide long-term value for Real Madrid, stating that spending €80 million (£66.5m) on the Frenchman would ensure a solid defensive foundation for at least a decade. “Real Madrid rarely make mistakes in this regard,” he added.
Madrid is also said to be targeting Trent Alexander-Arnold for a summer move, with the Liverpool right-back available as a free agent at the end of the season. However, Alexander-Arnold reportedly plans to stay at Anfield until then, meaning any potential move for him could be delayed until the summer.
