Chelsea captain Reece James has offered his support to former teammate Mason Mount after the Manchester United midfielder suffered another injury setback.
Mount, who limped off just 14 minutes into the Manchester derby last weekend, is expected to be sidelined for several weeks with a leg injury.
This marks yet another frustrating chapter for the England international, who has struggled with fitness since his move from Chelsea in the summer of 2023.
The injury occurred during just his fourth Premier League start of the season. Mount had also endured a challenging debut campaign at Old Trafford, featuring in only five matches due to recurring issues.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Mount expressed his devastation, saying, “Words can’t portray how devastated I’m feeling right now. You could probably see it on my face when it happened—I knew what it meant.
“United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee: I will never give up or lose faith. I’ll continue to give everything, get through this tough period, and won’t stop until I’m back.”
Reece James was quick to respond to Mount’s message, sharing his empathy for the struggles his former Chelsea teammate is facing. “Not many people understand what you’re going through, but I do. I’ve lived your disappointment after disappointment after disappointment,” James wrote.
“It’s real tough and lonely, man. Speedy recovery and stay strong, brother! I have no doubts you’ll be back to your best.”
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim confirmed the severity of Mount’s injury following his team’s Carabao Cup defeat to Tottenham. “I don’t know the exact date, but it is going to be a long time,” he said.
When asked if Mount is injury prone, Amorim replied, “That’s not my department. What I can do is help Mase learn our game during his recovery.
It’s really hard for him to be out for so long, but he’s trying very hard, and if they try hard, we help them to the end.”
Mount’s absence adds to the challenges faced by United, who are struggling for consistency this season. Fans and teammates alike will be hoping for the midfielder’s swift and full recovery.
