Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has voiced concerns over Ruben Amorim’s decision to move forward without Ruud van Nistelrooy on his coaching staff.

Following his appointment as Erik ten Hag’s permanent replacement, Amorim arrived at Old Trafford with his backroom team from Sporting Lisbon, including assistants Carlos Fernandes, Adelio Candido, and Emanuel Ferro.

However, van Nistelrooy, who served as interim manager and led United to an unbeaten four-game run, was left out, a decision confirmed by the club on Monday.

Van Nistelrooy, who had returned to United in the summer with a two-year contract, reportedly expressed a desire to stay and work with Amorim. Ferdinand, who played alongside the Dutch striker, believes van Nistelrooy had proved himself, stating, “His audition couldn’t have gone any better.”

He noted van Nistelrooy’s ability to connect with players and instill tactical insights, a connection that had been missing under previous management.

Though Ferdinand acknowledged that van Nistelrooy’s presence could potentially be a “distraction” for Amorim’s new regime, he questioned whether removing a figure with strong ties to both players and fans was the best choice.

Ferdinand explained that the decision could signal Amorim’s confidence in his own methods but suggested the move might overlook the unique rapport van Nistelrooy had cultivated with the team.
