Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has voiced his concerns over the club’s transfer dealings under new boss Ruben Amorim, fearing a costly mistake as the January window nears its end.

While much of the focus has been on potential outgoings, such as Antony’s loan move to Real Betis and speculation surrounding Marcus Rashford and Casemiro, Ferdinand believes the potential sale of Alejandro Garnacho could prove disastrous for United.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag in November, is reportedly interested in Danish left-back Patrick Dorgu from Lecce and Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku. However, Garnacho—linked with Chelsea and Napoli—remains a key talking point.

Speaking to TNT Sports after United’s hard-fought win over Fulham, Ferdinand said:
“I’m surprised this is even being considered. Garnacho is one of the few players in this squad who can spark something out of nothing. He’s young, impactful, and can create chances wherever he plays.

“Financial incentives to sell homegrown talent are forcing clubs into decisions that hurt them long-term. Garnacho’s departure would leave a creative void that United can’t afford right now.”

Despite the speculation, Garnacho played 81 minutes in Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Fulham, with Lisandro Martinez’s deflected strike securing a much-needed win.

Amorim acknowledged his side’s struggles after the match but remained optimistic: “This wasn’t our best match, but winning is crucial. I have a clear idea of the style I want, and we’re building towards it. Improvement will come.”

As United navigates a challenging season, currently sitting 12th in the Premier League, Ferdinand urged Amorim to find ways to maximize the team’s attacking potential without sacrificing young stars like Garnacho.
