Manchester City star Rodri may return to action sooner than expected as his recovery from an ACL injury progresses faster than anticipated

Initially ruled out for the remainder of the season after limping off in the 2-2 draw with Arsenal on 22 September, the Spaniard’s impressive rehabilitation has raised hopes of an earlier comeback.

The 28-year-old has made significant strides, with The Sun reporting he is already running on a treadmill—nearly two months ahead of schedule.

Medical staff have been impressed by his dedication and rapid progress, with optimism building that Rodri could feature again in the Premier League before the campaign wraps up on 25 May. Rodri himself remains determined to play this season.

Speaking to Spanish outlet COPE, he revealed: “I have in mind to play this season. Now the seasons are getting longer, and the Club World Cup ends on July 13. I see it as a challenge to return. I’ve already started walking, and I feel better than I thought.”

The Club World Cup, set to take place in the United States from 14 June to 13 July, had been Rodri’s original target.

However, his accelerated recovery timeline has given City fans fresh hope amid a difficult period for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Without Rodri’s commanding presence in midfield, City have faltered, winning just one of their last 10 games in all competitions ahead of the crucial Manchester derby.

Guardiola’s squad has missed their linchpin’s ability to control the tempo and shield the defense, making his potential early return a significant morale boost.

With the Premier League season entering its final stretch, Rodri’s comeback could be the turning point Manchester City desperately need to regain momentum and challenge for silverware.
