Although initially ruled out for the entire campaign, Rodri, who recently received the Ballon d’Or, has set a personal challenge to recover by the season’s end.
His optimism has lifted City fans, especially as the team struggles in his absence, having lost four consecutive games, including unexpected defeats to Bournemouth and Brighton.
City manager Pep Guardiola initially confirmed Rodri’s ACL and meniscus surgery would sideline him until next season, remarking, “We got the worst [news possible] but it is what it is. Good recovery, step by step, and we move forward.”
Despite Guardiola’s prognosis, Rodri’s determination remains strong, saying, “I have in mind to play this season,” while speaking on Spanish show COPE.
He added that the season’s extension, with the Club World Cup lasting until July, gives him hope. Now already walking and recovering well, he feels optimistic about his return timeline.
Rodri also addressed speculation about a possible move to La Liga but expressed his loyalty to City, saying he feels deeply connected with the club and life in England.
Reflecting on his journey, he shared, “Since I arrived in England, I feel it has been my home.” His focus remains on his recovery and contributing to Manchester City’s ambitions this season.
Pep Guardiola’s team, currently second in the Premier League and trailing Liverpool by five points, looks forward to stabilizing their form. After the international break, City will face Tottenham in the Premier League, followed by a Champions League clash against Feyenoord, both at home.
