Manchester United legend Roy Keane has outlined two major problems that incoming manager Ruben Amorim must tackle as he prepares to take over on November 11.

With the club languishing in 13th place in the Premier League, Keane believes the task ahead is daunting for the 39-year-old Portuguese coach.

Keane’s first concern is the work ethic among players, which he feels is sorely lacking. He expressed on Sky Sports that there are “a few players in the United team in big positions who can’t run,” which he described as a significant issue.

He stressed the importance of mentality, stating, “There are players who don’t want to run, and when they do run, they don’t run hard enough, fast enough, or long enough.”

He emphasized that this needs to change within the dressing room, suggesting that players who aren’t contributing adequately should be moved on.

He further lamented that this current squad does not dig in when faced with adversity, saying, “When the going gets tough, they go under; they go under too easily.”

Another critical issue Keane highlighted is the team’s lack of goals, having scored only eight times in their first nine league matches this season.

“The lack of goals is a huge problem for Manchester United,” he noted, expressing his frustration over the club’s negative goal difference. Last season, United scored 57 goals but conceded 58, finishing with a disappointing negative goal tally.

In light of these struggles, Manchester United has reportedly shown interest in Viktor Gyokeres, the Sporting striker who has been in sensational form. Gyokeres scored 43 goals across all competitions last season and has already netted 16 times in 15 matches this season.

However, when asked about a potential move to Old Trafford, he affirmed his commitment to Sporting, stating, “I enjoy it here… It’s nothing I really think about.”

As Ruben Amorim gears up for his new role, the focus will be on addressing these pressing concerns to restore Manchester United’s fortunes in the Premier League.
