Roy Keane has called on the Football Association to appoint Pep Guardiola as England’s next permanent manager once Gareth Southgate steps down. Guardiola’s contract with Manchester City expires at the end of the season, and Keane believes he is the ideal candidate to lead England.

The FA has yet to make a decision on Southgate’s successor, with Lee Carsley serving as interim coach for six Nations League matches. While Carsley guided England’s Under-21s to victory in the European Championship, he has been hesitant about taking the role full-time. Other names linked to the position include Thomas Tuchel, Eddie Howe, and Graham Potter.

However, Keane insists the FA should focus on securing the best, saying, “Go after Pep. His contract is up in the summer.” He stressed that choosing the right manager is crucial, regardless of the other candidates mentioned.

Carsley, following England’s 3-1 win over Finland, maintained his neutral stance on taking the job permanently, stating the position deserves a “world-class coach who has won trophies.” Though he does not believe the job is too soon for him, he emphasized that England’s next manager should have a proven track record.
