Ruben Amorim believes Mason Mount can still be a vital player for Manchester United and is reportedly determined to get him back to full fitness. The English midfielder joined United from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for an initial £55 million but has struggled with injuries ever since.
Mount, 26, has made just nine Premier League starts since arriving at Old Trafford, with a total of 33 appearances across all competitions. His only goal for the club came against Brentford in March last year, highlighting his limited impact due to fitness issues.
Currently sidelined with a hamstring injury, Mount is back in training and is expected to return soon. His last appearance was on December 15 against Manchester City, when he was forced off after just 14 minutes. Amorim sees Mount as a crucial part of his tactical setup and is eager to reintegrate him into the squad.

According to The Telegraph, Amorim is “desperate to keep him fit” because he views Mount as an ideal fit for his system, which deploys two No.10s behind the striker. Despite his injury woes, the manager remains confident that Mount can thrive in his role if he stays healthy.
When Amorim took charge at United, he made it clear how highly he rates the midfielder. “Mason Mount… I have to tell you, I love that kid,” Amorim said. “He played in this system before, so it’s perfect for him. I have two positions for Mason Mount, so he should be very happy.”
Mount’s latest setback against City was a blow to both player and club, but Amorim remains hopeful. “He fits our style. He’s a very good player inside and outside the pitch. The type of character we want in this team,” the manager added.

As United prepare to face Real Sociedad in the Europa League last 16 second leg, Mount will not be involved but continues his recovery. The tie is finely poised at 1-1, and with United winning just once in their last six games, Amorim will be eager to have Mount available for the final stretch of the season.
With time running out to make an impact this season, Mount will be desperate to prove his worth and repay the faith his manager has placed in him.
