Ruben Amorim is grappling with a significant challenge at Manchester United, according to former Chelsea defender Mario Melchiot.
Despite being appointed in November to replace Erik ten Hag, Amorim has failed to spark a turnaround at Old Trafford.
United’s recent 1-0 loss to Tottenham, their eighth defeat under Amorim, left the club languishing in 15th place, dangerously close to the relegation zone.
While Amorim has expressed confidence in his job, stating that he’s not worried about his future and remains focused on helping the players, Melchiot believes the pressure is mounting.
He suggests that Amorim’s outlook looking ahead to next season may not resonate well with United’s fanbase, who expect results immediately.
Melchiot also criticized Amorim for his tactical approach in the Tottenham loss, particularly for leaving the defense vulnerable while trying to implement a creative game plan.
One of the biggest concerns for Melchiot is the confidence crisis within the squad, particularly the drop in form of young talents like Alejandro Garnacho.

Once hailed as a future star, Garnacho now appears unrecognizable, lacking the spark that made him a threat to defenders.
Melchiot also questioned whether strikers like Rasmus Højlund could provide the goals United so desperately need, pointing out that the team’s attacking play has become ineffective. With players struggling to find form and the squad low on confidence, Melchiot warned that Amorim has a huge task ahead to turn things around at United.
