In his first interview since succeeding Erik ten Hag, Amorim spoke candidly with MUTV about his vision, priorities, and expectations ahead of his debut game on November 24, against Ipswich Town.

A Warning for United’s Rising Stars

During the wide-ranging discussion, Amorim was asked about the promising potential of Kobbie Mainoo, Alejandro Garnacho, Amad Diallo, Rasmus Hojlund, and Leny Yoro. While acknowledging the excitement surrounding the group, he made it clear that their age wouldn’t be an excuse for underperformance.

“I don’t want to say that we need time because we are a young team,” Amorim stated. “They are prepared. They are prepared to cope with the demands of playing for Manchester United. They should be because they are here.”

He emphasized the importance of starting strong, regardless of the players’ lack of experience:

“We have to start from day one without fear, without thinking they’re not used to playing like this. This is not on my mind. They will begin with our idea, no matter what. That’s the goal.”

Footballing Philosophy and Key Priorities

Amorim also shed light on his coaching philosophy, underscoring the importance of teamwork and identity.

“In one word: team. The team is the most important thing for me. And if you work as a team, the individual talent will shine.”

He explained that his focus isn’t just on winning but on building a team with a distinct identity:

“Everybody thinks the same—running back, playing, enjoying. This is what drives me. Of course, everybody wants to win, and I do too, but I want to win with an identity and one idea. That’s what I focus on all the time.”

Amorim elaborated on the importance of instilling his playing style immediately, despite the challenges of a new squad:

“We know we need time, but we have to win time. To win time is to win games. My first goal is identity—how we play, how we press. Small details make the difference, but I won’t overwhelm the players with every detail at once.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s Nickname for Amorim: ‘The Poet’

When asked about his nickname from Cristiano Ronaldo, Amorim laughed it off as a lighthearted jest:

“It’s a funny thing because when I speak, I think I speak from the heart. I think people feel that. It was just something to have fun.”

Looking Ahead

With a strong emphasis on unity, accountability, and a distinct playing style, Amorim’s debut as Manchester United manager promises to mark the beginning of a new chapter. As he prepares for his first match against Ipswich Town, fans and players alike will be eager to see how quickly his philosophy translates to results on the pitch.

One thing is clear: under Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils won’t settle for mediocrity or excuses.
