Ruben Amorim is gradually settling into his role as the new Manchester United manager. His tenure began with a draw against Ipswich Town, followed by preparations for his first Old Trafford game against Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.

As the January transfer window looms, Amorim will be seeking to fine-tune his squad and, according to reports, could raise funds for potential signings by selling underperforming players.

Antony’s Struggles at Manchester United

Since joining Manchester United in a £85million transfer from Ajax, Antony has struggled to meet the expectations set for him. While his initial months with the club showed promise, his performances have become increasingly inconsistent.

In his first season, Antony scored just four goals, while last season saw him contribute just once, a campaign disrupted by off-field controversies and accusations.

This season, the winger has had limited opportunities, making only two substitute appearances in the Premier League. His solitary goal came in a 7-0 win over Barnsley in the EFL Cup, but his overall impact has been minimal.

Lee Sharpe’s Call to Move On from Antony

Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe has suggested that Amorim should cut his losses and sell Antony when the transfer window reopens.

Sharpe believes that the Brazilian has failed to deliver consistent performances, despite flashes of his ability, and that his time at Old Trafford should come to an end.

With Amorim likely to implement a 3-4-2-1 formation, competition for attacking positions will intensify, making it even harder for Antony to break into the starting XI.

Sharpe also pointed to the rise of Amad Diallo, who has shown industrious play and reliability, making it more difficult for Antony to secure regular minutes. If United can offload Antony for a reasonable fee, it could free up funds for Amorim to strengthen the squad further.
